Dan Davey is the Director of Jazz Studies and Music Instructor at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon where he directs all jazz ensembles and teaches core music courses. Dan received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the Berklee College of Music and his Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. He taught high school for 8 years in Massachusetts before moving into higher education at Stonehill College and now at MHCC. Dan is also the jazz piano instructor at the University of Portland. He works as a professional pianist, organist, and trumpet player and is in demand nationally as an adjudicator, clinician and artist. He has played in several musical pit orchestras and also with the South Coast Jazz Orchestra, the John Allmark Jazz Orchestra, Herb Reed and the Platters, Doc Severinsen, Allen Vizzutti and Bobby Shew. Dan travels the country as an in-demand adjudicator and clinician and holds masterclasses and workshops for students and music educators.
Dan writes for JazzScene magazine and the Oregon Music Educators Journal. His published articles include reviews, interviews, research, and educational pieces. He has also been featured in JazzScene as a new face of jazz education in Oregon.
The American Band College
In the summer, Dan is a member of the Assessment Faculty of the American Band College of Central Washington University. Here he evaluates the work of masters candidates as part of their three-year curriculum towards a Masters in Music Education.
Western International Band Conference (WIBC)
WIBC University Band Manager
Each November, Dan manages the University Honor Band of the Western International Band Clinic (WIBC) in Seattle, Washington. Dan works with university honor students, conductors, and soloists in their preparation for an honor band performance.
Jazz Chair, Oregon Music Educators Association (O.M.E.A.)
As OMEA Jazz Chair, Dan is responsible for reviewing and selecting jazz session proposals for the conference. He consults with the All-State group manager and the conference chair to hire conductors for the all-state honor group. He appoints screening committees for selection of jazz students for All-State and All-Northwest honor groups. He designed state-wide jazz festival rubrics. He founded and runs the Oregon State Jazz Championships.

Stoughton High School
Dan taught music at Stoughton High School from 2004-2012. For his first four years, Dan directed one wind ensemble and all choral ensembles until moving into the Director of Bands position for his final four years at the school.
